MILLIS, Mass. – Eugene “Gene” LeRoy Bailey Jr., 69, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, after battling multiple myeloma for 8 1/2 years. He was born Sept. 19, 1943, in Calais, son of Pauline (Lawrence) Bailey of Lubec and the late Eugene L. Bailey Sr.
Gene attended Lubec schools and was a graduate of Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield, and Northeastern University, Boston, receiving his degree in business management. He was employed for more than 20 years as an administrator for American Can Co., and later worked as a systems organization coordinator with Fidelity Investments, Motorola and Putnam Investments. Gene had a tremendous love for his family. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed observing and being part of nature as he spent many hours afield.
Gene is survived by his mother, Pauline Bailey of Lubec; loving wife of 47 years, Constance “Connie” A. (Nicholas) Bailey of Millis, Mass.; daughters, Dawn Bailey Cleathero and husband, Kirk, and sons, Parker and Camden, of Norton, Mass., and Kathleen Bailey Smith and husband, Greg, and sons, Nicholas and Noah, of Nashua, N.H.; sister, Janice B. Wilson and husband, Michael, of Cooper; and brother, Harold L. Bailey and wife, Margaret, of Lubec.
A memorial service in celebration of Gene’s life was held Friday, March 1, in Millis, Mass. Those who wish may make donations in Gene’s memory to Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215.
