CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou is heading to the Final Four.
No, not that Final Four — this Aroostook County city won’t send a men’s basketball entry to the NCAA men’s college basketball championships in Atlanta — but national weather bragging rights are up for grabs.
The city of 8,189 residents has made it to the Final Four in The Weather Channel’s “America’s Toughest Weather City” tournament.
The “bracket” started with 64 cities and Caribou is among two — Fargo, N.D. is the other — that so far have garnered enough votes to make the top four.
Caribou outdistanced Syracuse, N.Y., whose college basketball team coincidentally advanced to the Elite 8 Thursday night, by a wide margin of 1,807 votes to 420 in the Northeast regional final.
Caribou will face either Juneau or Fairbanks, Alaska, in the Final Four, as those two cities are vying for the West Region title.
