BANGOR – Shann M. Gillespie died unexpectedly March 26, 2013, at a Bangor hospital, after a brief stay. Shann was born June 4, 1944, the daughter of James “Duff” and Helen (Young) Gillespie, who predeceased her.
Shann was a graduate of Bangor High School and diligently continued her education at Husson University where she earned her Master of Business Administration. Despite an intensively shy nature, Shann dedicated much of her life to quietly caring for people and pets in meaningful ways. She was employed as the business manager at United Technologies Center for more than 20 years where she served the students, MVR No. 4 board, staff and administration with great pride and care. Shann was a superb writer and accountant who loved delving into the details of school policy and finance. She had a strong faith and belief of right and wrong. Shann was always willing to speak truth to power in defense of principle and on the behalf of the MVR No. 4 board and students. Upon retirement from UTC, Shann divided her time between volunteering extensively at St. Joseph’s Hospital, at the reception desk, serving with the clergy as a Eucharistic Minister, and at Bangor Humane Society tending to orphaned animals. She will be missed by those who remember her quiet contributions but will unfortunately remain unknown to the many that benefited from her quiet efforts.
Friends are welcome to call 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, April 4. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, after the service. Those who wish to remember Shann in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
