SEAL COVE – Eloise M. McIntire, 92, died March 27th, 2013, at Mount Desert Island Hospital, Bar Harbor, surrounded by her family. Eloise was born Oct. 19, 1920, at her grandmother’s house in West Tremont, daughter of Albert and Zelma (Norwood) Hodgdon.
Eloise graduated from Pemetic High School, 1939, and Farmington State Normal School with a degree in teaching. She taught school for 42 years in Tremont, first in West Tremont and then at the new Tremont Consolidated School. She loved all of the children she taught and many of them would still come up to her and give her a hug when they would see her in Ellsworth shopping. She was very active in West Tremont Methodist Church where she was deaconess, secretary and a member of the sewing circle for many years. Many people will remember her from always working the food table at the rummage sales during the summers and working at the church suppers. She was also clerk at Larger Parish Church. Eloise was a member of American Legion Auxiliary for several years where she served as president for a time, a member of Pythian Sisters Lodge, Tremont Women’s Club, Millay Club of Tremont and Hillrest Cemetery Association. Eloise walked many miles collecting donations for the American Heart Association. Two of her favorite past times when she could no longer embroider were reading and word search puzzles.
Eloise is survived by her two sons, Marvin McIntire and wife, Melanie, of Sullivan and Craig McIntire and wife, Marilyn, of Seal Cove; six grandchildren, Scott McIntire of Trenton, Sheryl Woodard and husband, Troy, of Seal Cove, Jeffrey McIntire and wife, Kristin, of Ellsworth and Amy McIntire of Seal Cove; step-grandchildren, Tim Doughty and wife, Dawn, of Sullivan, Debra Doughty and David Wade of Sullivan; 12 great-grandchildren, Bryon and Tyler McIntire of Trenton, Brittany and Nicholas Woodard of Seal Cove, Eliana and Nolan McIntire of Ellsworth and Chloe Mitchell of Seal Cove; stepgreat-grandchildren, Whitney and Allen Doughty of Sullivan and Brandon, Joshua and Ryan Wade of Sullivan; great-great-grandson, Kyson of Wyoming and another one, due any day now, of Seal Cove; sister, Alberta Cole of Seal Cove; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, Miles of more than 60 years. Special thanks to Debra, Dawn, Donna, Whitney, Jean and nurse Deb Scappaticci for helping to care for Eloise so that she could be at home with her family after she broke her hip last fall, they brought many a smile to her face.
