CASTLE HILL – Thomas F. Johnson, 93, passed away April 7, 2013, at a Presque Isle health care facility after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 7, 1919, in Castle Hill, the son of Frederick T. and Fern (Burtt) Johnson.
He was awarded the Boston Post Cane for being the oldest citizen in Castle Hill where he was born and lived the majority of his life. Tom worked for the town of Castle Hill and served as road commissioner for the towns of Castle Hill, Chapman and Mapleton for a total of 43 years. He was also a member of Washburn Masonic Lodge No. 0193 and a member of Castle Hill Advent Christian Church.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 74 years, Florence (Richardson) Johnson of Presque Isle; daughters, Adena Wilson of Presque Isle, Brenda Grass and husband, Duane, of Mars Hill and Sally LaPlante and husband, Felix, of Newberg, Ore.; daughter-in-law, Pam Johnson of Presque Isle; grandchildren, Andrea Smith and husband, Steven, Lori O’Clair and husband, James, Todd Wilson and wife, Rebecca “Becky,” Alison Smoldt and husband, Jeffrey, Charles Wilson and wife, Tracy, Kevin Grass and wife, Donna, Beth Cook and husband, Chris, Andy Grass and wife, Brittany, Melissa St. Peter and husband, Brian and Scott LaPlante; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his son, Michael T. Johnson; brother, Stanley P. Johnson; two sisters, Beulah Turner and Helen Libby; and an infant granddaughter, Janelle LaPlante.
Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with Pastor Lucy Lovley and Donald McDaniels officiating.
