MILFORD – John Larry Costigan Sr., 69, died April 7, 2013, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Jan. 31, 1944, in Old Town, the only son of John D. and Mona E. (Chaples) Costigan.
Larry graduated from Old Town High School in 1961 as an all star athlete with scholarship offers for football and basketball. After attending a three year apprenticeship, he chose to start his family and career as an ironworker. He was a member of Local 496 where he met lifelong friends. His work took him throughout New England and to New York City where he worked on the World Trade Center in the 70s. He continued his career in ironwork until retirement at age 50. After retirement, he dedicated time to caring for his parents. He was a very strong man and showed his strength throughout his long battle with cancer and its side effects. His movie star looks and the sparkle in his eye will always be remembered by those who met him and knew him well. A generous man of few words, he was a wall of strength when needed.
