MONROE – Vera V. Whitcomb, 75, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in Newburgh, surrounded by her daughters and family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Newburgh, a daughter of the late Burt and Sarah (Naas) Veino.
Vera was a stitcher for many years at Evan’s Shoe Factory and also worked at various other shoe factories. She enjoyed sewing, bird watching, traveling to Texas to be with her son and most of all spending time with her family.
Vera is survived by her children, Lorita Mayo and husband, Donald, of Newburgh, Stuart Whitcomb of Texas, and Sarah Whitmore and husband, Roger, of Ellsworth; three grandchildren, Carla, Barbie and Anthony; two great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Zachary; brother, Vernon Veino and wife, Marion, of Newburgh; four stepchildren, Dwight, Ron, Linda and Leo; many nieces and nephews; and her cat, Rusty. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl R. Whitcomb, in 2003; and siblings, Herbert Veino and Selma Veino. Vera’s children would like to thank their mother for being the best mother to them all.
A funeral service will be held at East Dixmont Community Church, 34 Church Hill Road, Dixmont. Interment will be held in the spring. Memorial donations may be made in Vera’s memory to Dixmont Community Church. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
