CORINTH – Carolyn Jean (Higgins) Chesley, 68, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 14, 2013, with her family by her side. She was born July 15, 1944, on the family homestead in Charleston the daughter of the late Lawrence E. Sr. and Geneva (Farmer) Higgins.
Jean is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 49 years, Roger N. Chesley of Corinth; three daughters, Sheila M. Chesley with son, Thomas Scott Low, Sherry L. Blanchard and husband, Scott C. Blanchard, with daughters, Jacquelyn Jean and Samantha Susan, and Shelley Gould and husband, Jason D. Gould, with son, Jacob Chesley and daughter, Isabella Geneva; brothers, Lawrence E. Higgins Jr., Arthur Higgins, Francis Higgins and Clifford “Kip” Higgins; sisters, Theresa Tripp, Marjorie Hagelin, Alice Leeman and Myra Champagne; members of Roger’s family, Alton R. “Mickey” Chesley and wife, Hildred, and family, James Ugone and family, and Roberta (Wiggin) Kane and family. She was predeceased by brothers, Donald Higgins, Theodore Higgins, John Higgins and an infant brother; sisters, Betty Bragdon, Ruth Fecteau and Miriam Pitkins; father-in-law, Alton S. “Pat” Chesley; mother-in-law, Margaret M. (Hafey) Chesley; Anne (Chesley) Wiggin and husband, Floyd and Winona (Chesley) Ugone.
Jean had touched the lives of many through her unselfish acts of kindness and generosity. Her strong work ethic began on the family homestead to her long withstanding career at SAD 64, Corinth, most recently concluded with her retirement from the family business, Chesley’s Auction Gallery, which she and her husband operated for 32 years. Jean’s family had always been the center of her life. She enjoyed spending time with them at camp on Sebec Lake. Her loyalty, dedication and love of her family will forever live through her husband, children and grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Chesley’s Auction Gallery, 69 Marsh Road, Corinth. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Penobscot Relay for Life, P.O. Box 1896, Bangor, ME 04402. A private family service and burial will be held at a later date.
