HAMPDEN – Roy H. Fransen, 71, passed away peacefully April 20, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Roy was born Dec. 9, 1941, in Boston, the son of Helge and Astrid (Lossbom) Fransen.
Roy grew up and was educated in Boston. He later served in the U.S. Air Force before returning home and working his entire career with the city of Bangor as an aircraft mechanic. Roy had a love for building things. He built several boats, an airplane, restored cars, built the family’s first color television from a kit and even built the home that he lived in. Roy had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife enjoyed retirement and spent several of those years traveling. Roy will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Roy is survived by his loving children, Erik Fransen and wife, Robyn, and Trina Fransen and significant other, Kevin Hayes, all of Hampden; grandchildren, Isabelle Fransen and Caleb Moody; sister, Nancy Gallant and husband, Leonard, of Chester, N.H.; mother-in-law, Eloise Shannon; his faithful canine companion, Misty; as well as several nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife of 47 years, Donna (Shannon) Fransen; and brother, Steve Fransen.
Family and friends are invited to visit 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held noon, Friday, April 26, with the Rev. Dick Woehr officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.
