THOMASTON, PUNTA GORDA, FLA., and CLINTON, CONN. – Elizabeth “Betty” M. (Barton) Townsend Tootill, 88, went to be with her Lord April 22, 2013. She was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Rockland, the daughter of Alonzo and Mildred (Linekin) Barton.
Betty loved dancing, painting, and traveling. She was able to see all 50 states and went on 21 cruises. Betty was a member of the Red Hatters, the Elkettes, and was the Sunshine Lady of Windmill Village. She was also the founder of the State of Maine Club in Florida. Betty had a knack for taking care of people and making them feel good. As a caregiver and lifelong nurse it was her passion to help others in need. She was loved dearly by her family and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her children, Jerry T. Hazlett and fiancé, Robert Brown of Falmouth, Mass., and Jensen Beach, Fla., Faye Worley of Madison, Conn., Benjamin Townsend and wife, Judy, of Killingworth, Conn., Dennis Townsend and wife, Belinda, of Glenburn; grandchildren, Jeffrey Hazlett, Heather Maher, Dennis Townsend II, Brandon Townsend, Lyle Townsend; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joel Tootill in 1982; and a grandson, Benjamin Townsend in 2002.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Calvary Chapel, 154 River Road, Orrington. Interment will be at Kenduskeag Village Cemetery, Kenduskeag.
