BLUE HILL – Judith A. (Ryan) Grindle, 66, passed away peacefully April 26, 2013, in her home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. Judy was born May 12, 1946, in Cambridge, Mass., daughter of Harold and Anna (Walsh) Ryan.
Judy had many occupations throughout her life including boat building, clam digging, house cleaning, carpentry and caregiving. She was a kind and caring woman that would always put other’s needs before her own. She lived her life for her family, whom she loved unconditionally. She was strong, independent, brave and sentimental. There wasn’t anything that she couldn’t do. Judy loved flowers and gardening. So very often, she could be found weeding and grooming her lawns and gardens. She shared her gardening tips during walks and talks with her family. Judy leaves behind a big void and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her children, Dennis Candage and wife, Debbie, of Penobscot, Dana Candage and partner, Heather, of Brooklin, Rusty Candage and wife, Brandi, of Blue Hill and Mary Nevells and husband, Jamie, of Blue Hill; along with eight grandchildren, Spencer, Shelbi, Zach, Elijah, Marcus, Nolan, Kaleb and Cameron, who she treasured with all of her being. Judy also leaves behind five sisters, Joanne Reynolds, Mary Martin, Nancy Ryan, Eileen Doyle and Janet Chin; many close friends, Christine Lavoie, Pat Graham, Alberta Williams and Gloria Shorey; and three stepchildren, Nanette Grant, Russell Grindle and Yvette Grindle. She was predeceased by her husband, Edmund B. Grindle; parents, Anna and Harold Ryan; niece, Chrissy Doyle; very close and dear friend, Sonny Williams; and three infant children, Raymond, Lewis and Mary Candage.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. May 11, at Seaside Cemetery, Blue Hill, with a celebration of her life afterward at her home, 281 Falls Bridge Road, Blue Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hancock County Homecare and Hospice, P.O. Box 655, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
