HERMON – Oscar “Wally” Wallace, 79, died May 7, 2013, at home. He was born May 30, 1933, in Springfield, Mo., son of William Wallace and Lucy Stroud Wallace.
In 1952 Wally enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp, as a career, retiring as a Gunnery Sargeant in 1973. Married in 1954 to his love, Dorothy “Dottie” Jeanne Allen, they raised three children, Micheal and Milagros of Stafford Va., Leigh Ann Register and Tim of Whiteville, N.C., and Lucy Chapman and Scot of Odessa, Mo. After Dottie died, he married Cassie Witteborg-Wallace and her two daughters, Carrie Munsch and Chris and Gretchen Osborn and Charles. The family will always remember Wally as a simple honest man who possessed great integrity. They knew and loved him as their gentle giant, a large man with a great spirit. He will be remembered by all who knew him to be a caring gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his wife Dottie, Wally was predeceased by his parents; sister; three brothers; infant daughter; and infant grandson. Besides his children and stepchildren he is survived by his grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, Katherine, Barbara and Patricia Wallace, Angela Newport, Julie and Mark Howell, Meghan and Sara Osborn, Connor and Scott Munsch and Seth Wallace Chapman.
Memorial services will be held at a future date in Independence, Mo., with interment next to his wife, Dorothy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
