MONMOUTH, Maine — A Chelsea man died Tuesday night after he lost control of his motorcycle and the bike rolled over him, police said.

Bruce Morgan, 58, was riding along Waugan Road around 9 p.m. when his bike left the roadway, Monmouth police Chief Kevin Mulherin said Wednesday. Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morgan was not wearing a helmet but was otherwise dressed appropriately for a motorcycle ride, the police chief said.

Mulherin said from what police have pieced together “somehow he lost control and put the bike down into a skid,” causing the cycle to roll on top of Morgan, the chief said.

Speed doesn’t appear to be a factor, Mulherin said, but police are continuing to investigate the accident.
