BANGOR — The Make-A- Wish Foundation of Maine, a nonprofit dedicated to granting wishes of Maine children with life-threatening medical conditions, announced that its annual Walk for Wishes will take place at 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 18, at Cascade Park on State Street. Rain or shine, participants will walk 2 miles to raise awareness for Make-A-Wish. They also will have the opportunity to meet children who have received wishes from Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine.
The event also will offer refreshments, a fire truck for children to tour and raffle prizes, including a $50 Wal-Mart gift card, a Specialty Sweets gift basket and 4 passes to the Maine Discovery Museum.
Visit http://walk4wishes2013.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1057596 to make a donation, register for the walk or set up a personal Walk for Wishes donation page.
Each wish costs an average of $6,000 and a wish is granted almost every five days.
“Even during difficult economic times, Make a Wish of Maine is still committed to granting a wish to every qualified child in Maine,” said Dr. Colette Sabbagh, board member and pediatrician at Husson Pediatrics. “Since a child qualifies by having a life threatening illness, time is of the essence in raising the money to grant these wishes in time.”
Adults who raise at least $100 and those under 18 who raise at least $50 will receive a free Walk for Wishes T-shirt.
