MONROE – Randy Nelson Oliver, 56, died unexpectedly in his home May 16, 2013. Randy was born Oct. 25, 1956, in Alberton, Prince Edward Island, Canada, son of Jean Oliver Pavia and adopted and raised by his loving grandparents Georgie and Henry Oliver.
Randy moved from PEI to Maine in 1962. He attended Monroe Elementary, Mount View High School and graduated from Bangor High School in 1974. He graduated from George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, completed his millwright apprenticeship and became a journeyman millwright. He worked as a construction millwright until he was severely injured on the job. Randy loved sports and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, Celtics and Formula 1 racing. Randy loved to travel, enjoyed nature and the peaceful surroundings at his home in Monroe, the setting of many family gatherings including ice skating/hockey parties, lobster feeds and family Christmas celebrations. Randy also enjoyed working on vehicles. Randy was a compassionate, easy-going person who would always lend a hand to anyone in need. He could fix anything and took pride in everything he fixed. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Georgie and Henry Oliver; and by brother, Carl Oliver. Randy is survived by his mother, Jean Oliver Pavia of Toronto, Canada; daughter, Nicole Jernigan and husband, Jeff, of Winterport; son, Randy N. Oliver II and wife, Sarah, of Potomac, Md.; mother of his children, Patricia Oliver of Winterport; sister, Vera Horne of Toronto, Canada; brother, Clair Oliver and wife, Jane, of Prince Edward Island; sister, Colleen Stoddard and husband, Tony, of Danforth; sister-in-law, Lynda Oliver of Monroe; brother, Rod Pavia of Toronto, Canada; grandchildren, Kadin, Kiara and Kya Jernigan all of Winterport; special aunt, Pearl Bell of Prince Edward Island; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A service to celebrate Randy’s life will be held 1 p.m. May 23, at Ellingwood Corner United Methodist Church, Route 69, Winterport, with the Rev. David Nichol and the Rev. Steven Nute co-officiating.
