OLD TOWN – Merlin Harry Knox Sr., 69, died unexpectedly May 25, 2013, at his residence. He was born June 6, 1943, in Farmington, son of Harry C. and M. Freda (Foss) Knox.
He was a graduate of Hartland Academy, served 15 years in the U.S. Army, was employed for 20 years at Old Town Lumber and for 28 years at Speedway 95. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, car racing and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed time spent at Cold Stream Pond.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Merlin “Pete” Knox Jr. and wife, Amy, of Biddeford; three daughters, Elaine Riley and husband, Richard, of Springvale, Marcia Kay and husband, Jim, of Idaho, and Roseanne Caret of Oakland; sisters, Christine Fournier of Jay, Cheryl Oliver of Waterville, Aletica Knox of Augusta, Cynthia Bazley of Arizona, Frances Bazley of Lewiston, Linda Burnell of Augusta, Darlene Wheaton of Sidney, Sylvia Bazley of Brunswick and Leona Aguilar of Augusta; brother, Richard Knox of Searsport; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Rebecca Frost and Diana Knox.
A funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, at United Baptist Church, Old Town. Burial with military honors will be at a later date at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
