EASTON and FORT FAIRFIELD – Norma Mary Ann Whitney, wife of the late David A. Whitney, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013, at a Caribou health care facility, after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 3, 1939, in Edmundston, New Brunswick, daughter of Emille and Alma (Babin) Shearer.
She was a graduate of the Edmundston, New Brunswick schools system and received a degree in business. She was married to David A. Whitney June 21, 1968, and had been employed as a bookkeeper for Fraser Paper, Madawaska, and Peterson’s Motor Mart, Fort Fairfield. Norma had been a resident of Easton for a number of years where she attended United Baptist Church and also was a member of Order of the Eastern Star at the former Eastern Frontier Masonic Lodge, Fort Fairfield.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitney was predeceased by her husband, David, Jan. 19, 1980; brother, Gilman Shearer; and two sisters, Sonya Parent and Nora Shearer. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Wayne D. and Debbie Whitney of Statesville, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Troy Barnes of Caribou; three brothers, Normand Shearer of Montreal, Quebec, Raymond Shearer and wife, Rella, of Edmundston and Herman Shearer and wife, Caroline, of St. John, New Brunswick; two sisters, Lorna Pike of Caribou and Margaret Couturier and husband, Donald, of Montreal, Quebec; three grandchildren, Landin and Ainsley Whitney, both of Statesville, N.C., and Brevin Barnes of Caribou; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Private interment will take place at Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou.
