Shirley Kinney Roach, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully May 24, 2013, at York Hospital. She was born April 10,1922, in Houlton, the daughter of William P. and Etta Bird Kinney.
Shirley was a graduate of Houlton High School and the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She taught school in the Caribou and Washburn School Systems for a combined 32 years. Shirley lived a full and productive life and had many interests including music, bridge, and traveling. She also was an avid sports fan and reader.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Harry Q. Roach, her parents; and four siblings, Hilda K. Merrow, Nita Kinney, Phyllis McGary and Elmer Kinney. Shirley is survived by her son, Michael K. Roach and his wife, Ingrid, of Wells, her granddaughter, Abigail Moody- who was the light of her life- and her husband, Jason Moody of Wells; nephew, Robert McGary; three nieces and a number of friends who were her extended family.
At her request there will be no services. If desired contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society of Maine, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells.
