AMHERST, N.H. – Dana K. Mayhew, 79, died June 3, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 3, 1934, in Hoyttown, son of Carroll and Ada (Elsmore) Mayhew.
He graduated from Cherryfield Academy, and earned his master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maine, Orono. Mr. Mayhew made his home in Amherst, N.H., for more than 50 years. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he had been employed as an electrical engineer for Sanders Associates for 31 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and snowmobiling; spending more than 25 summers at their summer cottage in East Boothbay. He most especially loved spending time with his family.
Mr. Mayhew was predeceased by granddaughter, Jacqueline Elaine Sexton; brother, Robert Mayhew; and sister, Eleanor Richardson. Family members include his wife, with whom he would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on June 18, Elaine M. (Lawrence) Mayhew of Amherst, N.H; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carroll and Terryjo Mayhew of Northfield, N.H., and Steven and Winona Mayhew of Wilton, N.H.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Sexton of Milford, N.H., and Karen and Jeffrey Sickler of Milford, N.H.; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Phylis and Joseph Sproul of Cherryfield; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorial visiting hours are 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 7, at Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm St., Milford, N.H. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, at First Baptist Church of Amherst, 25 1/2 Middle St., Amherst, N.H. Burial will be at Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst, N.H., at a later date.
