BREWER and STILLWATER – Doreen Mae (Neilander) Thompson passed to Spirit Tuesday, June 11, 2013. She was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Caribou, daughter of the late Edmond and Marion Hannah (Patten) Neilander.
Doreen was well known for her sense of humor and wisdom. She graduated from Caribou High School. She was much loved by her late husband, Hollis Roy Thompson. She worked at Standard Shoe, Byer Manufacturing, Oronoka Restaurant, was a home health aide before becoming a successful Mary Kay consultant but her primary role was as a great homemaker. She shared her home and culture with hundreds of University of Maine students from around the world.
She is survived by her four children, Randa L. Shirland of Bangor, Brett D. Thompson and wife, Sandy, of Bowdoinham, Nedra A. Foster of Bangor, and Shawn T. Thompson of Bangor and partner Michael H. Mooney; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Keith Neilander and wife, Priscilla, of Woodland; and nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by brothers, Daryl and Larry Neilander; mother-in-law, Olive B. Thompson; sister-in-law, Verna Squillacote; as well as various other loved family and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of EastSide Rehabilitation and Living Center for their compassionate and loving care. We ask you to remember Doreen with a smile and laughter.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Patricia Palmer officiating. Conversation and refreshments will be directly after the service at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be at a later date.
