BUNNELL, Fla. – Allison K. Wetmore passed away June 2, 2013, after a long illness, with his loving wife and family at his side. He was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Houlton, to Clifford and Kathleen Wetmore.
He was married 43 years to his first wife, Cecilia Annette (Ahearn) Wetmore, who predeceased him. He raised three children, Allison W. Wetmore of Prattville, Ala., Sheila Wetmore and Kirk Wetmore, both of Bunnell, Fla. On June 2, 1995, he married his current wife, Helen (Moroney) Wetmore and resided in Bunnell, Fla.
He is survived by his three children; two stepchildren, Holly Soderberg of Burnsville, Minn., and John Hoggarth of Taylor, Mich.; six grandchildren, Aimee Keigan of San Francisco, Amber Wetmore of Huntsville, Ala., Brock, Blaine and Brionna Sodderberg of Burnsville, Minn., and Pamela Hoggarth of Taylor, Mich.; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He served with his identical twin brother, Clifford, in the Pacific Theater of operations during World War II on the heavy cruiser USS Boston, and was involved in numerous battles. He was awarded, among other decorations, 12 battle stars and two Philippine Liberation stars. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and retired as a senior chief boatswain mate in 1970. After that, he worked as a patrolman for Orono Police Department for three years, and as a battalion officer and instructor at Maine Maritime Academy, Castine, for 14 years. He and his wife, Helen, were members of New Smyrna Bible Chapel, New Smyrna, Fla.
A memorial service and burial was held 11 a.m. June 13, at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Florida.
