MADISON – Gary R. Watson, 66, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, June 16, 2013, at home. He was born Sept. 27, 1946, in Old Town, to Richard B. and Faith (Harris) Watson of Greenfield.
He attended high school at Higgins Classical Institute and Old Town High School, and graduated in the class of 1965. He was a veteran and was proud to serve his country from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam War as a specialist four in the U.S. Army. After his service, Gary worked 30 good years as an ironworker in Local No. 496. He was an avid collector of Civil War memorabilia, and also enjoyed collecting and trading antique books. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and rode on many trips all throughout the country until he was disabled.
Gary is survived by his father, Richard B. Watson of Greenfield; brother, Richard D. Watson of Greenfield; and two sisters, Terrylie DeBeck and husband, Gregg, of Mariposa, Calif., and April Kochis and husband, Tim, of Greenfield. Gary had no children, but loved his nephews and niece, Gregg DeBeck Jr. and wife, Patty, of San Leandro, Calif., Cody Kochis of Greenfield, Shawna Lynn Watson and daughter, Faith, of Milford, and Richard and Ricky Watson of Bangor. Gary has many cousins who will miss him very much and many special friends in the Madison/Skowhegan area. Gary was predeceased by his mother, Faith (Harris) Watson, in 1995.
A private memorial service will be planned at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan.
