SPRING HILL, Fla. and ELLSWORTH – William B. Tuite, 89, of Spring Hill, Fla., and Branch Lake, Ellsworth, died June 22, 2013, at Spring Hill, Fla. The son of Peter and Jane (Clarke) Tuite, he was born in Bailieborough, Ireland, while the family was on vacation, and raised in Old Greeenwich, Conn., upon their return to the states.
William joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, was discharged in 1948, then called back to service during the Korean War, and discharged again in 1954. He graduated from the University of Bridgeport in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting. Shortly after graduating, he met his future wife, Barbara and they married in 1957. He worked at Bunker-Ramo Corp, Trumbull, Conn., until 1974 when he purchased Hanson’s Landing on Branch Lake, Ellsworth, which he operated until his retirement in 1999.
He is survived by his children, Peter Tuite of Weeki Wachee, Fla., Nancy Tuite of Galveston, Texas, Elizabeth Wood and husband, Alan, of Ellsworth and Sean Tuite and fiancée, Sharon Gotlieb, of Bangor; grandchildren, Cyndi Wood of Ellsworth, Caitlin Wood of Portland and Madeline Tuite of Bangor; as well as many nieces and nephews to whom he was affectionately known as Uncle Willie. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Barbara (Nicholson) Tuite; son, William “Billy” Tuite; brothers, Robert and John Tuite; sisters, Anna Whalen, Frances Elles, Mary Hyland and Jean Dubois.
A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 1, at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Ellsworth.
