CARROLL PLANTATION – Edward C. Duerr Jr., 80, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at his home, with his wife, Anita, by his side. Born July 20, 1932 in Mystic, Conn., he was son of the late Edward and Lucy (Caverly) Duerr.
Edward did welding for many wood crews in the local area. They always called him “Fast Eddie.” Ed worked on the Nautilus, the first nuclear submarine ever built. His passion was old country music and playing his harmonica. He loved to attend the local music jams.
He is survived by his wife, Anita of Carroll Plantation; two daughters, Vickie LaFrance and her husband, Tom, and Barbara Campagna and her husband, Joe, all of Connecticut; two stepsons, Randy Toby and wife, Crystal, and Kendall Toby and wife, Lizabeth, both of Maine; and brother-in-law, Billy Smithson of Connecticut; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Eddie Duerr III; and a sister, Irene Smithson.
