OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — Police in one of the state’s biggest tourist hubs will be cracking down on underage drinking throughout the summer with a liquor compliance check at businesses in town.
Deputy Chief Keith Babin said approximately 21 businesses in town were checked by police over the course of the week, of which four premises sold alcohol to minors.
Babin said employees at Friendly’s Market, Olde Town County Store, Barefoot Boy and Jumpin Jakes all received warnings.
In each case, a minor was asked to produce identification and was sold alcohol despite having identification checked, Babin said.
The deputy chief said police will continue to conduct the compliance checks throughout the next few months.
