HOULTON – Charles “Charlie” Edward Belyea, 82, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 27, 2013, at a Bangor hospital, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born March 19, 1931, in Monticello, son of William and Mildred (Wotton) Belyea.
Charlie served as an Airman First Class, 1951-1955, with the 366th Communication Squadron in Okinawa, Japan. He worked as a farmhand for his brother-in-law, Lester Dyer, and as a plumber for his brother, Paul, before entering the U.S. Postal Service in 1965 and retired as a Houlton clerk in 1997. Bored with retirement, Charlie re-entered the work force as a cashier at VIP, Houlton, for a number of years. He was a Model A enthusiast who loved taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren for rides.
Charlie is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Joan (Suitter) Belyea; four children, Wayne Belyea and wife, Cathy, Rodney Belyea, Randy Belyea and wife, Kim, and Heidi Joaquin and husband, Jeff; eight grandchildren, Jill Forest, Matt Belyea, Josh Fitzpatrick and wife, Alicia, Kate Fitzpatrick, Micah Belyea, Melissa Winslow, Josh Winslow and Trey Belyea; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Forest, Jacob Forest, Alana Mullen, Lilli Ann Mullen, Hayden Belyea and Jaycee Forest; siblings, Phyllis Donatelli, Billy Belyea, Barbara Harvey and Libby Cowperthwaite; and special extended family, Harold Fitzpatrick II, Lisa Belyea, Brian Forest and Miranda Lundin. He was predeceased by his parents; grandson, Nick Belyea; and siblings, Paul Belyea, Ray Belyea, Carl Belyea and Evelyn Dyer.
Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of the service 1 p.m. Monday, at Houlton Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
