MILLINOCKET – Ozzie Pound, 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, while at home, with his family at his side June 28, 2013. He began his adventurous life May 26, 1924, son of Thomas and Estella (Reynolds) Pound.
Ozzie graduated from Stearns High School and entered into World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning to Millinocket, he began working at Great Northern Paper Company where he stayed for 47 and a half years. While at GNP, Ozzie served as union president for the National Pipefitters Association. He retired as superintendent of maintenance in 1986 and as training director in 1988. He also sat on the Millinocket town council for four years, was a member of the Elks Club, serving as exalted ruler for four years, a member of the local Independent Order of Odd Fellows, where he also served as noble grand, was a member of Francis Elliott Post No. 4154, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Millinocket, and was Cub Scout Troop Leader. As well, Ozzie was very active within Millinocket Baptist Church where he served as deacon, trustee, and singing in the choir. Ozzie shared his life with his best friend, and wife of 54 years, Emily (Marston) Pound. Together they lived life to the fullest while hunting, fishing, and raising a family.
Besides his wife, Ozzie is survived by his sons, Steve, and wife, Elisa, of Greenville, Kim and wife, Stacia, of Payson, Ariz., Brent and wife, Pam, of Greenville, Woody McCafferty and special friend, Marietta Cole, of Millinocket, and Pete McCafferty of Millinocket; two sisters, Theresa Madore of Millinocket and Marie Henry of Rockport. Ozzie and Emily also enjoyed their 10 grandchildren, Roxanne, Brett, Devon, Sarah, Mark, Michael, Miranda, Erin, Jarrod and Ireland; as well as their 13 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Maddison, Ember, Zoey, Isabella, Maxwell, Aiden, Ryan, Brooke, Katelyn, Kameron, Kyleigh and Kendahl. Ozzie was predeceased by eight brothers, “Tully,”, Atwood R., Darryle O., D. Lloyd., Otis E., Bryant O., J. Thomas Jr., and Richard D.; three sisters, Marsha L., Muriel E., and Elizabeth E.; as well as grandchild, Peter Wayne McCafferty Jr.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 p.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Millinocket Baptist Church, 297 Penobscot Ave., Millinocket. A graveside committal service with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, at Millinocket Cemetery.
