LEVANT – Carlton R. Hodgdon, 86, husband of the late Faye (Clement) Hodgdon, died July 3, 2013, at his home. He was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Hermon, son of Homer L. and Zelma I. (Page) Hodgdon.
Carlton or “Dickie” as he was known, worked as a merchant marine before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force with service during the Korean and Vietnam wars, on bases in Alaska and Greenland, and retiring after 20 years as a master sergeant. He worked for Goss Television Repair, Levant, after his military service he fully retired to help care for his wife. Dickie took great pride in the care and maintenance of his home and surroundings. In years past, he could be seen riding his beloved 1948 Harley Davidson pan-head. He was a kind, pleasant man, was a great father, grampa and father-in-law, and didn’t have a mean bone in his body.
Surviving is daughter, Jody Hurd and husband, Dennis, of Hermon; three grandchildren, Garrett, Brady and Meghan Hurd, all of Hermon; brother, Homer Hodgdon and wife, Joan, of Bethel Park, Pa.; sister, Freda Cooper and husband, Dale, of Spokane, Wash.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wayne and Sally Getchell of Florida; special cousins, Shirley Hatch of Hermon, and Wayne Hodgdon of Florida; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother-in-law, Galen Clement; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beryle and Sidney Higgins; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lloyd and Marion Clement.
Family and friends may visit 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where a service honoring Dickie’s life will begin 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Hyman, presiding. Burial with military honors will be at Waugh Cemetery, Levant. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Levant Fire & Rescue, P.O.
