PLYMOUTH – Christie M. MacKenzie, 82, died July 4, 2013, at her residence. She was born May 13, 1931, in Plymouth, a daughter of Roland and Electa (Gray) Hines.
Christie was a devout Christian and read her Bible every day. She was a member of Emmanuel Bible Baptist Church and Plymouth Grange. She served as second selectperson for the town of Plymouth until 2012. She drove a school bus for SAD 48 for more than 20 years and served as a rural mail carrier in Etna after her bus route was completed. She will be fondly remembered for her cooking, sewing and hunting.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Gerald “Butch” and Laurie MacKenzie of Old Orchard Beach, George “Buck” and Betty MacKenzie of Newport, and Scott and Allison MacKenzie of Plymouth; five daughters, Linda and husband, Mike Seavey, of Plymouth, Brenda and husband, Philip Ripton, Lorraine Hawthorne, Kris MacKenzie and companion, Todd Braley, all of Newport, and Sharon and husband, Tom McDonald, of Bangor; 24 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; special cousin, Algina Perry of Alfred; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; son, James; grandson, Ryan; sister, Marion Whalen; and son-in-law, Aaron Hawthorne.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Emmanuel Bible Baptist Church, Plymouth, with her grandson, Pastor Matthew McDonald officiating.
