BREWER – Noreen Gormely, 90 years young, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 4, 2013, in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Presque Isle, daughter of James and Alice (O’Boyle) Adams.
In later years her family moved to Bangor, where her father established Jim Adams, INC. It was in Bangor that she met her future husband, John Gormely. They were married in 1947 and began 23 year adventure with the Army, traveling and living in several countries throughout the world. She was a very caring wife for 50 years and mother to their five children. In addition, Noreen was very active in the Officers Wives Club and held many positions. She was the matriarch of her family, loved making quilts and working in her garden. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain. She will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband. Lt. Col. John Gormely; precious son, William “Bill” Gormely; brother, Walter “Bud” Adams; and sister, Joyce Adams. She is survived by four children, Judy Gormely of Brewer, Barbara Lawson and husband, David, of Dedham, Betty Gormely and friend, Bob Bernier, of Brewer, and John Gormely Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Dedham, 15 grandchildren, Kelly Marcella, Adam Gormely, Susan Page, Joe Philbin, Tiffany Condon, Paul Toole, Meredith Toole, Richard “Butch” Cohen, Allyson Cohen, Shelley Mock, Pam Parent, Wendi Gormely, Jessica Fashel, Sarah Burns and Rebecca Gormely; 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sister, Penny Folsom of Cumberland, and Jim “Snoopy” Adams and wife, Jean, of Otis; several nieces and nephews; and a lifelong friend, Margaret Gallant of Georgia.
A graveside service will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 12, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer, with the Rev. Carl Schreiber officiating. After the service the family invites relatives and friends to Noreen’s home, 152 Eastern Ave., Brewer, for a time of conversation and refreshments. A service of Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith.
