LOWELL – Stanley P. McKenney, 86, husband of Theresa Thurlow, passed away July 14, 2013 at a Lincoln hospital. He was born Aug. 21, 1926, in Lincoln, the son of Percy A. and Arlene (Shorey) McKenney.
As a young man, he worked cutting wood in the logging business and working with horses. He worked for Vernon Bowers and for Glendon Bowers in the logging business and later drove a log truck. He was an avid hunter and loved the out of doors. He liked to ride, loved traveling on vacation, and enjoyed cooking. He had a great sense of humor and liked to make people laugh.
In addition to his wife, Theresa Thurlow, he is survived by two daughters, Arlene McKenney and her companion, Horace Curtis, of Lowell, and Danita McKenney-Hallett and her husband, Jeff, of Bangor; three granddaughters, Duska York of Old Town, Miranda Bailey of Georgia and Sophie Hallett of Hudson; three brothers, George and Dottie of Orono, Ronald and Valerie of Lowell, and Daynel and Myrtle of Lowell; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Georgana (Gillespie) McKenney; his step-mother, Emma (Tupper) McKenney; three brothers, Edwin, Forest and Arnold; and a sister, Anna Quint.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Lowell Cemetery, with the Rev. Keith Shorey officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
