DEXTER – Shirley Parkman, 92, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013, at a Howland health care facility. She was born July 12, 1921, in Dexter, daughter of the late Lester E. and Inez V. (Reed) Richards.
Shirley grew up in Dexter and later married Wesley E. Parkman Sept. 3, 1938. Shirley loved to go to yard sales and antiquing and in early years Shirley and Wesley would attend antique car club shows. She also enjoyed reading, picking strawberries and had a true love for animals, especially her last dog, Prince. Shirley’s greatest joy was her family and she will be missed by them greatly. She also lived in Dover-Foxcroft for seven years before entering the nursing home in Howland.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wesley; four brothers, Omar, Clifford, Kenneth and Elden Richards; sister, Beatrice Call; son-in-law, Delmont O. Carey; and grandson, Michael S. Carey. She is survived by four children, Wesley E. Parkman Jr. and wife, Connie, of Milo, Inez E. Carey of Howland, Brian E. Parkman and partner, Paul J. Garelli, of Knox, and Duane E. Parkman and partner, Alton P. Libby, of Dover-Foxcroft; and three grandchildren, Sheila Grant and husband, Gary, James Parkman and Angel G. Carey. Shirley also leaves behind sister, Mattie Woodbury of Dexter; four sisters-in-law, Leah Richards, Virginia Richards, Betty Richards and Thelma Rennebau; and several nieces and nephews.
A private service of remembrance will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Gifts in her memory may be to Spruce Run Association, P.O.
