HOULTON – Irene M. Long died July 23, 2013, surrounded by her family in Bangor. She was born Feb. 26, 1922, in Benton, New Brunswick, daughter of Hugh and Bertie (Potter) Furrow. She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey, in 2001, whom she helped on the farm.
We are overwhelming sad to lose our incredible, kind and giving mother who dedicated herself 100% and unselfishly to our betterment and happiness. She motivated each of us to achieve above and beyond our own expectations, and was so very proud of each of us. She was so very precious to us and will never be forgotten, and will continue to be with us in soul and spirit. She taught us how to be humble and grateful for even the small things in life. Irene was a member of Military Street Baptist Church.
She is survived by daughter, Joyce Long and husband, George Lindenstadt, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; son, Weldon and wife, Cheryl Long, of Brewer, and sons, David and wife, Emma Long, of Portsmouth, Va., and Jonathan and wife, Jennifer Long, of Brewer; daughter, Brenda and husband, Charles Holman, and children, Trever and Chelsey, of Kennewick, Wash.; son, Darrell and wife, Nancy Long, of Topsham, and children, Andrea of Gainesville, Fla., Zoe of Pensacola, Fla., and Shara Chesley of Topsham; and six great-grandchildren. The family extends a thank you to Eastside Nursing Home Center and Beacon Hospice for enabling our special mother to die with dignity.
