OLD TOWN – Beverly Cecelia (Rollins) Clarke passed away in the early morning of July 28, 2013, at The Meadows, Old Town. Her daughters were at her side. Beverly was born Nov. 24, 1930, the youngest child of Charles and Cecelia (Nugent) Rollins.
She grew up in the Bingham area, always referred to as “home.” Beverly received her degree as a registered nurse at Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, Bangor, and in midlife earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine. She was very proud of being a nurse, and to the end would correct people when they mentioned that she “had been” a nurse, with “I am a nurse.” Her long career included many years of nursing at Cutler Health Center at the University of Maine, and as a public health nurse for the State of Maine. Beverly was very active in her community, serving on the Old Town Museum Board, working on health clinics as a volunteer nurse, participating in YMCA activities, and was a long time member of Old Town United Methodist Church. She cherished her many neighbors who shared their lives through the years in the Sargent Drive neighborhood.
She was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, Bailles, Blin, Glen and Charles; two sisters, Emerald and Elinor; and husband, Ora William Clarke. She leaves her daughters, Orene Clarke Brown and son-in-law, Larry M. Brown, and Janine Lynn Clarke; grandson, Matthew Adam Nesin; and great-grandson, Drake Zander Nesin. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Meadows, Old Town, and Hospice of Eastern Maine for their compassionate and excellent care during Beverly’s final weeks. It matters.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Old Town United Methodist Church. A reception will be afterward in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Old Town Museum, The Meadows, Old Town, Hospice of Eastern Maine, or Old Town Public Library.
