BANGOR – Lucille M. Sprague, wife of the late Robert V. Sprague, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, in Bangor. She was born July 4, 1918, in Bangor, daughter of the late Hamlin and Marguerite (Gardner) Maddocks.
Lucille graduated from Brewer High School in 1937 and the University of Maine in 1941. She taught in Machias, Woodland and Brunswick. She lived most of her life in Bangor where she was a member of All Souls Congregational Church for more than 60 years. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, Athene Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Society of Mayflower Descendants. She was past president of Quipus Club.
Lucille is survived by son, Jonathan and wife, Connie, of Bangor; daughter, Lisa (Sprague) Gurney and husband, James, of Phoenix; four grandchildren, Kathleen (Sprague) Garner and husband, Luke, of Rockwall, Texas, Benjamin Sprague and wife, Malorie, of Bangor, Leslie (Gurney) Lane and husband, Nick, and James Gurney all of Phoenix; three great-grandchildren, Kate and Owen Garner of Rockwall and Clover Lane of Phoenix; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Virginia Dogherty of Augusta and Mildred Sprague of Farmington, Conn. She was predeceased by two sisters, Avice Dogherty and Elaine Nauman.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where her life will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher Of All Souls Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will be afterward at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
