VERONA ISLAND – E. Maxine (Turner) Chatto, 91, died Aug. 5, 2013, at Tall Pines Nursing Home, Belfast, with family by her side. She was born May 28, 1922, in Haynesville, daughter of Harry E. and Jessie M. (Kelley) Turner. Maxine was a 1941 graduate of Bucksport High School, an employee at Bucksport School Lunch Program and Heritage Tackle and Gear. She was a member of Verona American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star and Franklin Street Methodist Church. She was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed doing so with the “gang” made up of family and close friends. She enjoyed traveling and was always eager to “hit the road.”
Maxine is survived by her husband of 71 years, Murray A. Chatto; daughters, Loretta J. Watt and husband, Gerald, and Jacqueline M. Oliver and husband, Owen, all of Verona Island; grandchildren, Daniel Watt and husband, James Britton, of Orland, Nanette Smith and husband, Stephen, of Litchfield, Lillian Walker and husband, Hazen, of Masardis, Michelle Astbury and husband, Wyatt, of Orland, and Jason Oliver and wife, Kris, of Sanford; great-grandchildren, Jesicca Adams and partner, Dennis, of Bangor, Christopher Warford and partner, Nicole, of Bangor, Kathryn and John Smith of Litchfield, Clayton and Samuel Doolan of Orland, Melissa Palumbo and husband, Michael, of Biddeford, and Jamie Britton of Brewer; great-great-grandchildren, Dominic Adams of Bangor, and Isabella Warford of Bangor; brother, Lloyd E. Turner and wife, Gloria, of East Orland; brother-in-law, Robert Brawn of Searsport; nieces, Lee Ann, Vicki, Debbie, Rosemary, Colleen and Cathy; and nephews, Lloyd Jr., George Jr., Robert Jr., and Ernest. Maxine was predeceased by her parents; brother, George E. Turner and wife, Eileen; grandson-in-law, Clifford Doolan; great-grandchildren, Anna Smith and Brandon Astbury; sisters and brothers-in-law, Muriel and Shirley Bowden, Gladys and Robert Boyce and Vivian Brawn; and nephew, Dean Boyce.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Riverview Cemetery, North Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. A time of remembrance will be held at Edward K. Arey Community Center, North Bucksport, following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maxine’s name may be made to the Activity Fund at Tall Pines Nursing Home, 34 Martin Lane, Belfast, ME 04915.
