CORINTH – Fern Elizabeth (Chesley) Page, 97, died Aug. 22, 2013, at Emilio Estates in Corinth. She was born Jan. 21, 1916, in Charleston, the daughter of Cleveland and Ethel (Strout) Smith.
Fern was always an extremely hardworking, family oriented lady. In her early years she worked as a telephone operator. She spent many years cooking at local restaurants and was well known for her delicious donuts. She stayed very involved in her daughter’s and grandchildren’s lives and always loved the family cookouts and birthday get-togethers.
Fern is survived by her daughters, Janet Chesley Speed of Dover-Foxcroft and Carol Chesley McLaughlin and her fiancé, Larry Doyle, of Corinth; six grandchildren, Kimberly Speed Surrette, Kristen Speed Forrest, Kevin J. Speed, Kerri Speed Pulkkinen, Michael McLaughlin and Tania McLaughlin Hanson; ten great-grandchildren, Kayla and Kelsie Anderson, Lance and Logan Forrest, Alex and Erin Speed, Aliza and Ava Pulkkinen, Mason McLaughlin and Ella Hanson; one sister, Doris Bowden and her husband, Wilfred “Bud” Bowden; two brothers, Chester Smith and his wife, Janet, and Kenneth and his wife, Elaine; one sister-in-law, Gloria Smith; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Fern was predeceased by both of her husbands, Myron R. Chesley in 1978 and Bert C. Page in 2003; three brothers, Clifford, Clayton and Dana Smith; and two sons-in-law, Arthur McLaughlin and Ronald Speed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Emilio Estates in Corinth for the excellent care given to Fern over the last several years.
Friends and Relatives are invited to visit 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth. Burial will be at Corinthian Cemetery, Exeter Road, Corinth.
