BUCKSPORT – Daniel H. “Bud” McCann, 88, passed away peacefully Aug. 29, 2013, at home surrounded by love. A Bucksport native he was born May 22, 1925 the son of Thomas F. and Anna M. (Sheehan) McCann.
Bud graduated from Bucksport High School in 1943; he celebrated his 70th class reunion this summer. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII serving in Europe from 1943-1946. Bud worked at St. Regis Paper Co. for 42 years and retired in 1987. He owned and operated Sunshine Center Laundromat for 17 years; he was also the Little League Coach with Reggie Ginn. Bud was a Member of American Legion Post 93, 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus, lifetime member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. Bud also loved to golf, play cribbage and dance. For 25 years he enjoyed spending his winters in Florida. Bud was a faithful husband, wonderful father, devoted grandfather and an avid Red Sox fan. Bud enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sports events. He had a great sense of humor, disposition and unconditional love.
Bud is survived and will be sadly missed by the love of his life of 60 years Ann (Craig) McCann and his four children, John McCann and Telly, Vicky Wardwell and Peter, Mary Lenor and Roger and Peter McCann and Denise; 10 grandchildren, Charity, Amy, Megan, Kelly, Rachael, Forrest, Lindsay, Emily, Noah and Nick; eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Elizabeth Duncan and one brother, Paul McCann, one sister-in-law, Frances Shortsleeve and Dane, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by twin daughters, Mary and Karen; two sisters, Jane Burpee and Elinor Umphrey.
Bud will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the Veterans Home, Gentiva Home Health, New Hope Hospice and Dr. Biswas for their kind, loving and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Bucksport Little League, P.O. Box 1490, Bucksport, ME 04416. Family and friends will gather for visitation from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent De Paul with Father Bruce Siket officiating. michelltweedie.young.com
