PORTLAND, Maine — One of the city’s busiest roads will fully reopen to traffic on Monday.
The full length of Baxter Boulevard will be open to motorists after an eight-month closure, according to City Spokeswoman Nicole Clegg.
The closure was due to a Storage Conduit project, which required the installation of underground concrete box conduits, which can store up to two million gallons of combined sewage and stormwater.
The project enables the stormwater to be sent to the East End Wastewater Treatment facility instead of being deposited untreated into the Back Cove.
Two separate conduits containing one million gallons were installed, one under Baxter Boulevard and another under Payson Park.
