EAST MILLINOCKET – John F. Farmer, 75, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at a Millinocket hospital. He was born Aug. 18, 1938, in East Millinocket, the son of Joseph and Arlene (Brennan) Farmer.
John grew up in East Millinocket, and attended East Millinocket schools, graduating from Schenck High School, class of 1957. He was employed at the Great Northern Paper Company in Plant Engineering, retiring in 1998 with 41 years of service. John was an avid gardener, enjoying both flower and vegetable gardens, and having great success with both. He had a hidden talent with his artistic hand, and even some of his closest relatives were not aware of his abilities. John was a regular communicant of Christ the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in East Millinocket, attending Mass according to the church schedule. He was very active with the Cursillo movement for over 35 years, as well as devotion to Mary. He was also a CCD leader for many years at St. Peter’s. John was a loyal fan of the Boston Celtics, and will be most remembered and missed as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marilyn A. (Paquet) Farmer of East Millinocket; two sons, Joseph C. Farmer of Waterville, and Mark A. Farmer and his wife, Heather, of Billerica, Mass.; two grandchildren, Shea Elizabeth Farmer and Ryan Thomas Farmer; two siblings, Robert L. Farmer and his wife, Joanne, of East Millinocket, and Joseph E. Farmer and his wife, Emily, of Plymouth; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Lamson Funeral Home, 17 Western Ave., East Millinocket, where the Daughters of Isabella, St. Anne’s Circle, will recite the Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar St., East Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider. Private interment will be at East Millinocket Cemetery.
