FORT FAIRFIELD AND GRANBY, MASS. – Phyllis M. Cyr, 83, wife of the late Clyde F. Cyr, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 9, 2013 at a Holyoke, Mass., hospital, following an extended illness. She was born April 22, 1930, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Chester L. and Susan J. (Rochford) Hanson.
She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1948, and was married to Clyde F. Cyr, Aug. 23, 1950. Mrs. Cyr had been employed by Potato Service, Inc., Presque Isle, the A&P and later the Interstate Processing Plant, Fort Fairfield as a quality control technician. She was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield, a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle Number 427, Fort Fairfield and a member of the Fort Fairfield Alumni Association. Phyllis was also very active in the St. Denis Parish Rosary Guild, and continued to craft rosaries for others until shortly before her death. Phyllis also greatly enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cyr was predeceased by her husband, Clyde, March 17, 2002; one son, John A. Cyr in 1968; two brothers, Raymond L. and Paul J. Hanson; one sister and brother-in-law, C. Marie and Howard Kenney. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard P. and Sun Nam Cyr of Fayetteville, N.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Ann and Roy Dupruis of Granby, Mass.; five grandchildren, Larry Hitchcock and his wife, Renee` of Ludlow, Mass., Carol Goodreau, Emily Hitchcock, both of Ware, Mass., Michelle Cyr of Matthews, N.C., Kathy Cyr of New York City; four great grandchildren, Joseph, Madison, Jenna and Thomas; one brother and sister-in-law, Louis A. and Sally Hanson of Fort Fairfield; one sister-in-law, Jeanette Hanson of Caribou; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with Father Jean-Paul Labrie celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Council Number 1753, 260 Main St., Fort Fairfield, following the interment service.
