DENNYSVILLE – Mavis Adair Mahar, a lifetime resident of Washington County, passed away at the age of 84 on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, in Bangor. Mavis was born Jan. 26, 1929, in Marion to Gerald and Geneva (Colson) Lund.
She grew up in Plantation 14 and attended local schools. As an adult, Mavis settled in the same area where she grew up to raise her own children. She made a successful career with Gilford Industries, retiring after nearly 30 years of service. Mavis was also an excellent quilter and passed that talent to her daughter, Brenda. In the winter, she would pass her free time teaching her daughters, Patsy and Bobbit, her gift of knitting. Mavis especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Jeanette. Although dedicated to her work, Mavis especially looked forward to relaxing with her children, grandchildren, and other family on Independence Day, Christmas, and other gatherings. Mavis will be especially remembered and loved for her lifetime of dedication and service to her family.
Mavis is survived by daughters, Patsy, and her husband, Hazen Taggett, of Mapleton, Brenda, and her husband, Douglas Frost, of Pembroke, and Roberta and her husband, Micheal Hudson, of Eddington; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, brother, Gerald L. Lund and his wife, Sharon, of Pembroke; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Gertrude B. Mealey, Kathleen L. Spear, and Marjorie L. Scussel; and brother, Dwight N. Lund.
A memorial ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Machias chapel of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes.
