SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Police have released the identity of a South Portland man who was killed in a crash on Route 77 on Tuesday.

Robert Taylor, 72, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Scarborough police Officer Andrew Flynn.

No suspicious circumstances such as speed or alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

Taylor was traveling along the Spurwink Road shortly after 7 a.m. when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, Flynn said Tuesday.

Taylor’s vehicle subsequently caught fire, but it was extinguished by a passing motorist.
