BAR HARBOR – Emma Hanson Cunningham, 95, died Sept. 25, 2013, at MDI Hospital. She was born, June 1, 1918, in Bar Harbor the daughter of Lester and Grace (Tucker) Hanson Sr.
She graduated from Bar Harbor High School and Castine Normal School. She worked as a school teacher and the Sewer Clerk for the Town of Bar Harbor. Emma and her husband, Fred, went on many adventurous travels across the country to Florida, Arkansas, Alaska and Hawaii.
Emma is survived by her son, Jack E. Cunningham and wife, Beth; grandsons, James and wife, Jessica, Jared and Samuel; brother, Stephen Hanson; special niece, Karen Pinkham, who she was especially close to; nephew, Michael Hanson, who was raised as their son; granddaughters, Logan and Deborah; great-granddaughters, Peyton and Kara; and a great-grandson, due in January that she was so looking forward to. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Cunningham; brothers, Lester, Reginald, and Donald Hanson; sisters, Helen Dorr, Charlotte Otto, Myra Black, and Thelma Whitney.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at First Baptist Church, 46 Ledgelawn Ave., Bar Harbor. Interment will be at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor.
