STONINGTON – Dorothy Ann (Bolton) Brophy, 81, of Stonington, Maine, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital on Friday, September 27, 2013. She was a wonderful sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to everyone in her life.
Dorothy was born in Attleboro, Mass., to Fred E. and Alice E. Bolton on January 29, 1932. Dorothy grew up in Mansfield, Mass., and married Bernard A. Brophy and raised a family with him in West Bridgwater, Mass. In 1976, the family moved to Deer Isle.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bernard Brophy and her daughter, Brenda I. Grenier.
She is survived by her sister, Myrtle “Snookie” King of Florida; her sister, Marion Patnaude of South Carolina; her brother, Fred E. Bolton and wife, Carol of Deer Isle, Maine and her brother, William D. Bolton and wife, Rose of Stonington, Maine.
Dorothy is also survived by her daughter, Donna M. Daniels and husband, David of Bridgewater, Maine; son, Daniel J. Brophy and wife, Diane of Sedgwick, Maine; daughter, Linda J. Stacilauskas and husband, Peter of North Providence, Rhode Island; son, David W. Brophy and partner Jeannette Cassidy of Stonington, Maine; son Timothy E. Brophy and wife, Dianne of Deer Isle, Maine; son, Thomas J. Brophy and wife, Bridget and daughter, Kathleen A. Weed and partner, Ronald Weed of Sedgwick, Maine. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In her later years, she lived with her fiancé, John Young in Little Deer Isle.
A wake will be held at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Stonington, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2. A funeral service will be held at the same location at noon on Thursday, October 3.
Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her late husband at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Easton, Mass.
