ORRINGTON – Mary Alice Newman, 93, passed away on Sept. 28, 2013 in Bangor with her family by her side. She was born June 25, 1920 in Johnville, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Perrett) Damon.
She attended school in Calais, graduating from Calais Academy class of 1938. She married, moved to Lubec, raised her three children and made many lifelong friends. Eventually she relocated to the Bangor area and was employed by Bangor Mental Health Institute for many years before retiring. Alice was an avid reader and rarely missed an article in the BDN. She greatly enjoyed family and friends and maintaining contact with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed swimming and canoeing in her younger years. She was a courageous lady with strong faith and will be deeply missed by her family. Her family would like to thank her friends at Fairground Apts., St. Theresa’s and at East Side Rehab for their compassionate care and support.
Surviving are three children, Diane Champion of Spring Hills, Florida; Wayne J. Newman and wife Carole of Brewer, and Raymond W. Newman of Lubec; five grandchildren, Richard Davis of Norfolk, Virginia, Michael Davis of Land O Lakes, Florida, Terry Blake of Eddington, Lorri Newman of Hampden and Aaron Newman of W. La Fayette, Indiana; nine great grandchildren, Kathleen Elswick, Jennifer Aldana, Chuck Berry, Anna Faye Davis, Andrew Davis, Richard Davis, Jr., Leo Mealey, Devon Newman and Wyatt Newell; ten great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Dorothy Linton and brothers, Sydney, Howard, George (Frank), Ralph and Leonard Damon and grandchildren, Heather Newman and Leo Davis.
A graveside service will be held at Old Chapel Cemetery, Trescott, at a later date. For those who wish, please honor her memory by performing an act of kindness for an elderly friend, neighbor or loved one. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, Brewer and Bangor.
