GRAY, Maine — Even though leaves throughout the state have been changing colors, the Maine air has more of a July feel than that of early October.
High temperatures in parts of the state were expected to top 80 degrees on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
John Cannon of the NWS’s Gray office said Wednesday afternoon communities in southwest portion of Maine will top off in the 80s, which is good news for people heading to Fryeburg.
“Everybody at the fair is nice and toasty right now,” he said.
Portland is expected to top out at 80 degrees, just shy of the record high for this date the city recorded in 1968. The temperature at Bangor International Airport was listed as 75 at 2 p.m., with temperatures expected to remain in the mid-70’s.
Gannon said the warm weather is expected to continue through the end of this week. Normal temperatures for early October typically peak in the low 60’s, he said.
