PORTLAND – Phyllis T. Illingworth, beloved wife and mother, died Oct. 4, 2013, in Portland. She was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Oakland, the daughter of Aubrey Manning Tingley and Vera Elsie Ireland.
She grew up in Waterville, graduating from Waterville High School in 1939. She worked following high school for the Waterville Water District. In 1946 she married Paul Thomas Illingworth. They were married for over 60 years.
In 1954 they moved to East Millinocket and in 1957 to Millinocket during the years her husband worked for the Great Northern Paper Company. She was a stay at home mother for much of that time, but also held several paid positions. She was active in many school activities. In 1981, following Paul’s retirement they moved to Portland where they spent many happy years.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Paul; her sister, Edna Pearl Antworth; and her brother, Aubrey M. Tingley Jr. She is survived by her son, David Paul Illingworth. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was especially fond of her niece, Linda Jean Anderson; and her cousin, Cheryl Connolly. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for her during her last illness.
She will be laid to rest with her husband, Paul, at East Wilton Cemetery, East Wilton. A family committal service will be held at a later date.
