BANGOR – Eugene “Gene” W. McKenney, 74, passed away Oct. 6, 2013, at his home in Bangor. He was born Jan. 28, 1939, in Fort Fairfield the son of Harris C. and Annie E. (McGrathy) McKenney.
Gene served his country in the U.S. Army, 101st Air Borne, during the Korean War. He was the former owner and operator of Lucky’s Market on Center Street, Bangor. Gene enjoyed following sports and loved watching the New England teams as well as the University of Maine. The family would like to thank Dr. Riker, Joanne, and all their staff as well as Dr. Santhyadka and staff, for all their care and compassion over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Gina (Altieri) McKenney of Bangor; sisters, Janice Cumming of San Antonio, TX, Inez Lynch of Fort Fairfield, Claire Esposito of Madison, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by siblings, Mona, Joanne, Wedell, Gilbert, Carl and Dale.
Services for the family will be private. Gifts in Gene’s memory may be made to a charity of choice. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
