FORT KENT – Martha Madore, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2013, at Crosswinds Residential Care Facility in the presence of her loving family. She was born June 3, 1926 in St. John, ME, daughter of the late Paul J. and Anna (Soucy) Pelletier.
Following high school, she worked as a secretary for Daigle & Daigle where she met a handsome young man named Lionel Madore, who was also an employee of the firm and just returned from serving in the military during World War II. They were married December 26, 1947.
She worked various secretarial jobs throughout her working career including Etscovitz Chevrolet, Fort Kent Registry of Deeds, UMFK, while raising a family of five children. Two daughters (twins), Mary and her husband, Norman Marquis, of St. John, ME, Anne, of Fort Kent; three sons, Robert and his wife, Theresa (St. Jean) Madore, of Glenburn, ME, Paul and wife Donna (Jandreau) Madore of Fort Kent, and Daniel and his wife, Debra (Saucier) Madore, of Fort Kent. She had eight grandchildren, Justin, Adrien, Danielle, Denise, Aaron, Allie, Drew and Bryce; nine great-grandchildren, Bo, Louise, Sabine, Simone, Cecile, Cora, Maxime, Fletcher and Finley. She is survived by a sister, Lucille (Pelletier) Bouchard of Fort Kent, and Lucille’s husband, Phil Bouchard. Martha is also survived by her brother-in-law, (Wess’s husband) Paul Daigle, from Ct. She leaves behind a special niece and nephew, Karen (Abbot) Michaud of N.C. and Michael Abbot, of N.H. In addition to her husband of almost 60 years, she was predeceased by her sisters, Annette, Yvette, Jannette, Agatha, Eloise (Wess).
Martha was a very loving and generous person, who treated everyone she met with dignity and respect. She had a calm and unassuming presence and taught through example. The last six years of her life were spent at Crosswinds Residential Care Facility in Fort Kent, where she made many close friends and where she left a lasting and loving impression on the wonderful staff. She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who were touched by her.
Friends may call Oct. 10, Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. until time of service at the Daigle Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday 11 a.m. at the St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Graveside services will be held at a later date in the parish cemetery.
